A commission for the new Histopathology Laboratory at Cambridge University Hospital.

In late 2024, I was approached by CUH Arts for the commissioning of department-spanning series of works. What ensued was one of the most intense and rewarding six months of my life, learning about histopathology, the NHS, and people in the department, and the nature and environment surrounding the site.

The work generally fell into three themes:
1. ‘What’ – the ‘stuff’ of pathology, the hands, tools, processes and people that undertake this work
2. ‘How’ – how then, how now, and how into the future, the development of histopathology as a field of science and technology, and where there are overlaps with printmaking
3. ‘Why’ – the new laboratory is designed to bring the outside in – its connection with nature and the natural environment serves as a reminder of what it is all for. Behind each slide is a person, a story, a family.

I will write more on this as time allows, but needless to say, I was thrilled to be supported in the creation of such a diverse body of works, celebrating process, making, and people.
