A presentation of new work on paper, ‘Conversations outside my head’ is my first solo show in a few years.
A common houseplant sits on a stool in a room that is many rooms. Kitchen, office, lounge, there are days when it is ‘other’ living being within touch, sight and voice. An uncomplaining real world companion during online interactions, both constant and changing.
In this solo exhibition, I work that explores daily practice, repetition and labour as coping mechanisms for anxiety, but seeks further balm against isolation through participation with a community. Visitors are invited to contribute to the next iteration of the work, during or after the exhibition. By relinquishing control of my labour and memory, I am placing an almost naïve faith in strangers and friends to add their own voices to a conversation.
